Medicaid Coverage of Wheelchairs, etc., in New York

Medicaid claims for such items as wheelchairs and walkers by some disabled poor in the New York City area are being returned because of a lack of necessary medical documentation, the state Health Department said Wednesday.

The agency disputed a published report that thousands of durable medical equipment orders for the downstate area have been rejected or delayed since Nov. 1, when the Health Department stopped processing them in Manhattan and started handling all state claims at its Albany office.
