Pataki Vetoes Bill on Out-of-State Schools for Disabled

Newsday has an AP article by that title today. Here's the lede:

Gov. George Pataki has ordered a state commission to report seven months earlier than scheduled on ways to avoid having to send young, disabled New Yorkers to out-of-state residential schools for education and training. The work group was appointed in 2003 and was to have made recommendations by the end of 2005. But Pataki moved up that timetable to June 1, 2005 as he vetoed legislation that would have mandated heightened regulation of the out-of-state schools for the disabled by the New York state Education Department and other New York agencies.
